Coolio - Gangsta's Paradise

La galardonada Gangsta's Paradise es una canción que al tener un tema social tan vigente sea asimismo una canción siempre vigente. Por supuesto, la musicalización también tiene mucho que aportar, ya que este tema interpretado por Coolio (01 de Agosto de 1963), y casi calcado a la canción Pastime Paradise de Stevie Wonder, se transformó en un éxito sin precedentes en 1995 cuando apareció para la banda sonora de la película Mentes Peligrosas (Dangerous Minds).

Al parecer, esta canción habla de un pandillero repasando toda su vida y como fue moldeado por un ambiente cuyo futuro era la delincuencia. Es que muchos niños y adolescentes son reclutados dentro de pandillas encantados por el dinero fácil y seguro, pero al mismo tiempo son absorbidos y envueltos dentro del consumo y tráfico de drogas asi como la violencia y la muerte. Entonces, es fácil entrar, pero casi imposible salir aún teniendo la voluntad.

El autor de esta canción siente que todo lo que ha pasado no fue su decisión de vida ni de trabajo, sino que sólo estuvo dentro de una asfixiante prisión sin oportunidades. Asimismo, al tanto del daño que le fue causado a él y a otros como él, trata de crear conciencia en aquellos que viven dentro de la delincuencia asi como también de prevenir a quienes podrían caer en ella. Destacando sobretodo, como las comunidades negras en barrios tan populares se quejan de la opresión y discriminación, pero son ellos, los que sin darse cuenta han sido los principales destructores de sus propias vidas.
