We Are the World (1985) debe ser uno de los primeros videos que movió mi corazón siendo un niño. Y sin entender mucho acerca de las letras, sólo la emoción y fuerza con la que es cantada por los artistas americanos (USA), sumada a las imágenes de los niños de Etiopía bastaba para que fuera una bomba lacrimógena en mis ojos y un collar de cebollas en mi cuello.
USA For Africa es a mi parecer la más grande contribución artistica en la historia de la música. Esto, por ser el primer esfuerzo solidario artistíco a gran escala, por la cantidad de importantes (todavía) músicos involucrados y el mensaje de esperanza y cooperación por aquellos seres humanos cuyas miserias nos hacen agradecer tener un techo, comida y salud.
Este tema fue escrito por el desaparecido Michael Jackson y Lionel Richie más la producción de Quincy Jones. Y se sabe que el mensaje llegó al público Americano, al mundo entero, y que las personas se sintieron tocadas para ayudar y donar dinero por una noble causa. Este es otro ejemplo de como la música puede ser una influencia positiva cuando el amor es la base para su ejecución. Mención aparte a mi querido, Steve Perry (Journey) que aparece con su granito de arena unos segundos.
