Foreigner - Until The End Of Time

Si de baladas se trata Foreigner son unos expertos en lograr que sean un suceso. Y aunque estos no sean un éxito mediático, siempre lo son en todos los que ponen la oreja para escucharlos. Until The End Of Time es otro ejemplo musical romántico y exquisito que no tuvo la repercusión de clásicos de la banda pero que en uno se transforma en un hit en menos de diez segundos.

Este track apareció en el disco Mr. Moonlight de 1994, el que sería el último con el cantante Lou Gramm quien es otra leyenda viva del Rock.

Y de que habla este tema: Pues del típico sujeto que cree que el amor es un invento de la sociedad para atontarnos y que sólo nos trae problemas tras problemas. Lo que pasa es que todo su parlamento es una especie de coraza debido a su soledad. Sin embargo, pronto el amor llega a su puerta y no puede rechazarlo aún con sus miedos a cuestas. Ya está enamorado, sus antiguos argumentos no tienen validez y aprendió que amar a alguien para siempre no es sólo para los tontos que buscan problemas.

Foreigner - That Was Yesterday

Foreigner son maestros en crear bonitas y atractivas baladas. No podía ser menos, ellos son unos de los más grandes exponentes del AOR y canciones como Waiting For A Girl Like You o I Want To Know What Love Is ya están dentro del inconsciente colectivo de todos los que vivieron los años 80.

That Was Yesterday, quizás una de las más sentidas baladas de esta banda, apareció en Agent Provocateur (1984), disco de donde también saldría la aclamada I Want To Know What Love is. Y aunque no fue competencia en términos de popularidad para el mega hit antes mencionado, es otra de las tantas demostraciones de la valía de esta agrupación. Sobretodo, la soberbia forma de cantar de Lou Gramm, quien como siempre llena de emoción el ambiente.

Y de que habla: Las letras de la canción se suman a la desgarradora voz de Gramm quien interpreta a un hombre que posiblemente fue traicionado por su pareja y que sufre por un quiebre amoroso que no tendrá una segunda oportunidad. Y aunque trate de decir que aquel amor quedó en el pasado, es sólo por orgullo, ya que no deja de pensar en esta mujer que ya no siente nada por él. Sin embargo, este hombre vive con la esperanza de que al menos ella recuerde todo lo que él la amó.

I Want to Know What Love Is es uno de los más grandes temas, o porqué no, el gran ícono de las canciones de amor que caen bajo el género AOR. Mundialmente conocido, ampliamente difundido y reconocido por casi cualquier persona, este tema es también el gran emblema romántico de Foreigner.

Emotivamente interpretada por un inimitable Lou Gramm, esta canción apareció en el disco Agent Provocateur (1984) contando con la especial participación de la cantante Jennifer Holliday (N. 19 de Octubre de 1960) y del coro de New Jersey quienes se encargan de completar y darle fuerza a esta preciosa obra.

La letra: Probablemente la mejor continuación de Waiting For A Girl Like You. Esta es una oda al amor correspondido, las emociones de aquella persona que tuvo que sufrir para saber lo que el verdadero amor es. Foreigner - Waiting For A Girl Like You

Waiting For A Girl Like You es una de las baladas más conocidas de Foreigner. Compuesta por Mick Jones (n. 27 de Diciembre de 1944) y Lou Gramm (n. 2 de Mayo de 1950) apareció por primera vez en 1981 y fue uno de los singles del disco 4. A pesar de tener un ritmo simple que casi no varía, la sola inclusión de la voz de Lou Gramm hace que parezca una verdadera joya musical y que sea una de mis canciones favoritas de toda la vida.

La letra: Un hombre que ha conocido la soledad y el desengaño se da cuenta que se está enamorando nuevamente y narra con especial alegría como las sensaciones propias del amor se hacen cada vez más intensas en él. Sin embargo, no está seguro si es correspondido de la misma forma y tiene miedo de ser herido otra vez.

Pero las cosas cambian y pronto tiene a esta chica entre sus brazos amándolo y haciéndolo sentir vivo y realizado por completo. Es por eso que ahora todo lo que quiere hacer con su existencia es simplemente dedicarsela a ella en cuerpo y alma. Porque como dice él, eso es lo que te sucede cuando realmente amas a alguien. Sobretodo si esta persona es la chica que has estado esperando toda tu vida.

Sin embargo, todo es un sueño creado desde lo más profundo de su corazón. Todas sus palabras, el amor y la mujer de la cual habla, son sólo el reflejo de lo que él quiere y necesita entregar. Lou Gramm

Louis A. Grammatico (n. 2 de Mayo de 1950) más conocido como Lou Gramm, es el dueño de una de las voces más características en el mundo de la música. Posee una reconocida carrera como solista, pero saltó a la fama como vocalista de Foreigner, el ícono multi-platino del sonido A.O.R.

Para mi es inmejorable su interpretación de Waiting For A Girl Like You, o el vigor que le entrega a Urgent, uno de sus más grandes exitos. Sin embargo, su más reconocida labor como cantante es I Wanna Know What Love Is, una de las baladas más tocadas de todos los tiempos.

Desgraciadamente, en 1997 y a punto de comenzar un tour por Japón, le fue diagnósticado un tumor cerebral benigno. Posteriormente, la recuperación y terapias le tomaron más de un año. Situación que lo alejó de la banda y también de su imagen ultra delgada, puesto que llegó a pesar más de 145 kilos debido a todo el tratamiento. Esto le causó un desgaste físico muy grande durante sus presentaciones en vivo, y provocó los comentarios absurdos de algunos despistados, que creían que sólo se estaba dedicando a comer hamburguesas en vez de cantar.

A pesar de todo, la llama del rock & roll aún sigue presente en él y en el recuerdo de todas esas canciones que tienen su inimitable sello .
