Metallica - Of Wolf And Man

Of Wolf And Man es otro clásico del Black Album de Metallica. Bien se podría decir que este disco tiene bastantes temas que se podrían catalogar como indispensables, a pesar que algunos sigan asegurando que la época de los grandes temas de esta banda sólo se remontan hasta el And Justice For All. Sin embargo, y en contra de los que se auto califican como expertos en la materia, insisto en decir que este es uno de los mejores discos en la historia del Rock Pesado.

Como parte de las características de las canciones editadas en este disco, este track es pesado pero lleno de matices que lo hacen atractivo hasta para el popero más empedernido. Y tiene varias maneras de ser analizado en sus letras. La más usual es aquella que dice que estamos frente a la historia de un Hombre Lobo y su forma de ver el mundo. Pero siendo Metallica quienes escribieron este tema, es probable que ellos quieran entregar otro mensaje. En este caso, se podría pensar que Hetfield está hablando de si mismo, considerándose realmente un hombre lobo, aquel ser que al transformarse saca a relucir todos sus impulsos básicos.

En pasajes del tema él explica que lo que ciertamente lo mantiene vivo no es la razón ni el pensamiento, sino que el instinto. Y es eso lo que él pretende destacar. Puesto que al conectarse con su lado animal es cuando se vuelve un ser completamente libre, sin ataduras de ningún tipo, conciente de su entorno e interior. También expresa que la transformación en lobo agudizan sus sentidos y potencian sus movimientos, factores esenciales para atrapar aquel cordero que saciará su hambre. En otras palabras, la conexión con su parte primitiva es lo que realmente le ayuda a lograr sus objetivos.
