Ugly Kid Joe - Cats In The Cradle

El grupo Ugly Kid Joe tuvo la genial idea de realizar un buenísimo cover de una buenísima canción y lanzarla sin miedo como single. El resultado fue mucho mejor de lo esperado ya que se ampliaron las fronteras de esta banda hacia un público que no estaba tan emparentado con la música que ellos tocaban.

El tema en cuestión se llama Cats In The Cradle del compositor Harry Chapin (7 de Diciembre de 1942 - 16 de Julio de 1981) y aunque algunos juren que el verdadero autor es Cat Stevens, me da la impresión que esa gente confunde este tema con la canción Father And Son.

La letra habla de un padre de familia que nunca tuvo tiempo para su hijo debido al trabajo. Es así como por ejemplo nunca estuvo cuando este niño aprendió a caminar y hablar, puesto que siempre se encontraba de viaje. Este niño luego crece y siempre buscando la forma de estar con él, lo invitaba a jugar a la pelota o realizar alguna actividad juntos, pero este padre siempre le decía que estaba ocupado y que ya llegaría un momento para disfrutar.

A pesar de todo, su hijo lo admiraba y le decía que quería ser como él cuando grande. Pasan los años, su hijo ya no vive con él y en una oportunidad este padre lo llama para saludarlo y decirle que lo quería ver. Pero su hijo, ya hecho un hombre, le agradece el gesto y le responde que desgraciadamente no tiene tiempo para estar con él debido al trabajo y los hijos. Es entonces que al colgar el teléfono el anciano padre se da cuenta que su hijo realmente terminó siendo como él.
